Increasing the number of participating teams has also increased the chances of each side/team to qualify for the knockout stages making it more challenging and taxing for the participating teams. The competition at the moment between the teams is intense and worth watching. The newer structure and format of the game has also made it easier for the teams who have never qualified for the knockouts before to perform better and qualify this time. One such team is Iceland, and this is the first time that they have made it to the knockouts of the UEFA Euro Cup, all credits to the new pattern of the game and the improvised skills of the players.

The apparently smaller teams have shown that they can hold on their own and Iceland stands as a proof after the way it took Portugal, Austria and Hungary. The competition as mentioned before is more intense due to the newer format which also led to better performances by the teams during the qualifiers, the teams have clearly declared an open competition and are pooling in all their efforts to give a tough fight to their competitors. Iceland shockingly enough for the audience is proving to be a tough competition for the other teams.

Iceland will be the smallest nation to appear at the major finals and it will play against England in the last sixteen. Iceland is giving a tough competition to England and Aaron Gunnarsson’s performance during the matches has been commendable. Teams like England are preparing themselves for their matches against Iceland since now that they are well aware of the little techniques of the players of Iceland, they will be trying their best to tackle Iceland’s best moves. Along with the fact that it is majorly the pattern of the game that has proved to be really lucky for a small nation team like Iceland for whom this was the first shot at a major tournament, it is also the technicalities of the game and the small tricks used by the players of Iceland that has helped them in the long run. Moreover, it is also Lars Lager back the coach of the team who has motivated the Icelandic players into putting their best foot forward, his knowledge of the game along with his mannerisms and the way he organizes his team is worth appreciating and adds to the team effort. The team is sure of the point that due to the modified pattern of the game it will be much easier to go forward in the game with the mindset of defeating the opposite team and maintaining a constant pace in the competition.

Present year’s Euro cup has been different in a lot of ways, beginning from the changed pattern, to new formats, to small nations like Iceland making to the knockouts to better chances of teams who were unable to perform well in the previous years to improvise and move forward in the game. Audience was in a way flabbergasted when Iceland made a position in the knockouts but that’s how it is. Probably, now is the time for the smaller nations to secure their places in major tournaments like the Euro cup, maybe the newer format is a chance for the teams of the smaller nations to establish their mark and Iceland currently seems to be on the right path to glory.
