A look at the tonight’s Encounter – The last match day for the round for the round of 16 encounters will witness the clash between England and Iceland and the most anticipated match of the tournament where the defending champions Spain will play the last time runner ups Italians which will be a replay of the last Euros final where Spain thumped Italy 4-0. The second and the late night encounter will see the young English team take on the team that has been the story of the tournament so far, the brilliant Iceland.
A look at the tonight’s Encounter
Both the matches are set to be nervy encounters and the big clash between last time finalist will be a match to witness.
Italy vs Spain
This will be a tricky encounter on the cards were both last time finalists will fight their way hard to book a place in the final 8. Spain will come back from the Croatian defeat which ended their 14 match unbeaten run at the Euros while Italy come into the match after being beaten by an inspired Ireland.
Italy’s team will look the same like the way they began tournament against Belgium except Antonio Candreva who is out with a thigh problem and AS Roma’s wing back Alessandro Florence is likely to begin in his absence. The Spanish team will be the same that played in all three group stage matches, but have Sergio Ramos booked and if he is on receiving end of another yellow card, then Spain will have to play with his absence in the next match if they advance.
The Spanish team looks a bit out of their strides this season, but on cards have greater quality players in their ranks. The Medfield of Spanish team will be the deciding factor for them as they are the one who dictate most of the games for them. They will definitely be demanding goals from the “now” Real Madrid man Alvaro Morata. The one thing that looked problematic for the Spanish team in the last match was their shaky defense and hence the defensive duo of Pique and Ramos will have to do their best. On the other hand the Italian team looked promising at the start, but tumbled against Ireland but that wouldn’t worry Italy as that was not their best team that they will field for this match. Italy will rely much on their defense and their dark arts that have always worked against Spain and this will be a once heck of an encounter.
Verdict – Spain
This will be a tricky encounter, but Spain has superior players than the Italian team and that could be the deciding factor for them.
England vs Iceland
The second match of the night will be another cracker where the “story” of the tournament so far Iceland takes on the English team. The English team definitely goes into the match as the favorites, but this will not be a walk in the park for them as they have looked unconvincing.
Roy Hodgson is set to bring all the players that he rested in the last encounter against Slovakia while the Iceland team will be the same team they have fielded in every match.
England definitely has a better fire power with them going into the match, but has looked very untidy. The wingbacks will be the real potent weapon for England as they will look to torment the defensive line of Iceland like they did against Wales. Harry Kane will have to score this time or will lose his place to Jamie Vardy. The Medfield duo of Wayne Rooney and Eric Dier has been the real advantage for England this term and the English team will be banking on them.
Verdict – England
Iceland is not a fancied team and England has a lot of firepower that will be eager to prove themselves.
